Take a peek at GreenSmart Home of the Year
I am not sure how many people know about the prestigious GreenSmart construction awards – but yes, they exist, and there are houses being built in Australia where owners care a great deal about sustainable building principles.
A couple of days ago, the GreenSmart Home of the Year was awarded to company Eco-Logical Building from WA. The ceremony was held on August 18 at Crown in Melbourne.
The award-winning Mullaloo project, according to the judges, “is a well-designed and executed home that exemplifies GreenSmart Principles.”
What principles? According to the Eco-Logical Building website, these matter the most:
- Orientation
- Low impact construction techniques using sustainable building materials wherever possible
- Passive solar design ensuring reduced greenhouse gas emissions and energy cost savings
- Appropriate glazing to windows, providing thermal protection and higher acoustic ratings
- Higher levels of insulation
- Grey water recovery systems
- Solar/wind energy options
- Efficient site waste management
The Mullaloo residence is 7-star rated for its sustainable features – northern orientation, underground water tanks, grey water, photovoltaic cells, cavity insulation, e-glass and low emission lighting solutions.
Have a look at this marvelous home. Enjoy!
