SoloPower leases 225,250 square feet in North Portland

SoloPower will lease a 225,250-square-foot building in the Rivergate Industrial District in North Portland.The San Jose, Calif., maker of thin-film solar panels announced plans in January to build an Oregon plant in Wilsonville, but it abruptly changed plans when some residents started a campaign against a proposed incentive package.More The Oregonians continuing coverage of SoloPower’s plans for a thin-film solar panel factory in Oregon.At the Portland site, SoloPower will receive $14 million in state tax credits, a $20 million state energy loan and an estimated $16.5 million in tax abatements for locating in the Rivergate Industrial District, a designated “enterprise zone.” The company will also use part of a $197 million loan from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop the Portland plant.The facility will produce flexible solar panels and will initially employ 170 workers. At full build-out, after $340 million in planned investment, it will employ 500. The site is owned by Clarion Partners of New York. The company was represented by Kidder Mathews, which announced the transaction in a news release. The space was the only vacant building in North or Northeast Portland larger than 150,000 square feet, leasing broker Tom Talbot said.–
